Food products collected by Food Banks for charity include, among others, fresh food and products which require controlled temperature. Often however, there are also products with very short best-before dates. That is what makes the delivery time so important as it allows for transporting food to the people who need it in the shortest possible time. Thanks to the logistics support from Raben Group, Food Banks are able to more efficiently acquire food from supermarkets, which hasn't been sold and which is still before the sell-by date. Products which have even two days to the BB-date can find their way of the table and feed many hungry families.
"Food is too important to just throw it away." - says Marek Borowski, President of the Federation of Polish Food Banks. "We are proud of the partnership with Raben Group which supports our efforts with great engagement. Thanks to the cooperation we can successfully fulfil our mission of helping the most needy and prevent wastage of food."
In July 2015 Raben Group offered assistance to Food Banks in transporting food. This action developed in long-term cooperation which continues until today. For instance, in March and April 2017 alone we transported the total of almost 400 pallets of food with the total weight of over 225 tons. Since the onset of our cooperation, in less than two years there were 12 000 pallets which gave over 7,000 tons of food products that hit the hands of the needy.
"As a logistics operator we work for the FMCG sector among others, and we are determined to eliminate poverty and hunger. This is also a direct manifestation of the Sustainable Development Goals announced by the UN, including also the postulate of "ZERO HUNGER", in the business strategy and the sustainable development policy of Raben Group." – comments Jakub Krzewina, CSR Coordinator in Raben Group and he adds – "In order to achieve this goal we launched the cooperation with the Federation of Food Banks."
All Raben Group companies in Poland have been engaged in cooperation with Food Banks since the transported products require different transport conditions. For example, Fresh Logistics carriers goods which require controlled temperature from 0 to 6 degrees Celsius. Transportation of food products to the Food Bank is also carried out by Raben Logistics Czech, in the Czech Republic.
