Dictionary
Aim and guidelines of the "Dictionary of Raben Companies" is to help the Reader to understand the vocabulary used by Raben Group companies in the sector of transport services.
The terms defined herein are approximate, i.e. they can slightly vary from the definitions which arise from law acts in force or the wording of regulations and patterns of agreements used by particular companies of Raben and other Carriers and Forwarding Agents. In case of such discrepancies the definition arising from the legal act and regulations or pattern of agreement shall be binding.
1. Loading Actions
-
the action of loading a shipment in a Place of Loading and Unloading from the means of transport in a Place of Delivery.
2. Working days
-
all days from Monday to Friday except for holidays which happen to fall on those days.
3. Freight document
-
document(s) being an evidence of accepting a Shipment for transport and course of and performance of transport service. The most common freight document is Consignment Note.
4. EDI (Electronic Data Interchange)
-
a system which improves and minimizes the cost of data exchange between Customer and Carrier or forwarding agent. Transfer of data on transport orders in EDI format may proceed via modem (analogue or digital) or via electronic emails (analogue with the possibility of ciphering data) due to which the cost of sending information is not higher than a cost of a local telephone call. The benefits of using EDI are mainly the reduction of time and costs (reduction of time-consuming filling-in documents by hand) and minimize the risk of errors resulting from manual writing down information.
5. HACCP
-
short for Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points, it is a system aiming at maintaining foods’ safety via identification and assessment of hazards from the point of view of all health regulation concerning food products and risk of hazards which may occur at all stages of food’s production and distribution. The system is also aimed at determination of methods of hazards’ elimination or reduction and determination of corrective activities. HACCP system shall be implemented and used in every enterprise which deals with food production, processing and distribution.
6. Transport Unit

EUR pallet or any other pallet, a basket, a container or a cardboard box into or onto which goods are transported. A shipment may consist of one or more Transport Units.
7. CMR Convention
-
Convention on the Contract for the International Carriage of Goods by Road signed in Geneva on 19 May 1956 (Journal of Laws of 1962, item 49, article 238). This Convention shall apply to every contract for the carriage of goods by road in vehicles for reward, when the place of taking over of the goods and the place designated for delivery, as specified in the contract, are situated in two different countries, of which at least one is a contracting country.
8. Domestic road transport
-
carriage of goods by Road vehicle if both the Place of Dispatch and Place of Delivery are in the territory of Poland.
9. Consignment Note
-
freight document issued by the Sender on a form used by the Carrier being first of all an evidence of accepting the Shipment for transport and the evidence of transport and receipt of Shipment by the Recipient. It also includes i.e. information necessary for proper carriage, additional notes concerning the course of action for a given shipment and the signature of the Sender or a person who act for the Sender.
10. Place of Delivery
-
place indicated in the wording of the Transport order where shipment is to be delivered.
11. Place of Dispatch
-
place indicated in the wording of the Transport order where shipment is to be loaded and send for transport.
12. Sender
-
agent indicated in the wording of the Transport order giving the shipment for transport to the Carrier and issuing a Freight document.
13. Recipient
-
agent indicated in the wording of the Transport order entitled to receive the Shipment.
14. Carrier’s Units
-
organizational units of Carrier’s company. Due to the role their have in the process of transport of a given shipment they can be divided into.
a) OCL - Branch which accepts Transport order of the Customer regarding the transport of the shipment.
b) ACL - Branch which accepts Transport order of the Customer regarding the transport of the shipment.
c) TCL - Branch where shipment is transshipped.
d) ECL - Branch which organizes delivery of shipment from Customer at Place of Delivery.
15. Loading time slot
-
time slot determined in the wording of the Transport order during which the Sender shall make the loading and send the Shipment for loading.
16. Forwarding Agent
-
Entrepreneur providing the Customer with the service of transport, handling and warehousing of customer’s goods.
17. EUR Pallet
-
a wooden pallet, 120 cm long 80 cm wide, meeting the objectives of Directive UIC 435-2 and legally marked with EUR trademark.
18. Sub-contractor
-
a carrier to whom Raben company being the Carrier has contracted work of transport in total or in part only.
19. Transport Law
-
Act of 15 November 1984 Transport Law (Consolidated text: Journal of Laws of 2000 no 50 item 601 as amended). The regulations of Transport Law shall apply in domestic transport of people and goods for reward on the basis of an agreement.
20. Carrier
-
Raben company which accepts transport order and undertakes to transport a shipment.
21. Shipment
-
goods accepted for transport on the basis of a Consignment note for one Recipient and to one Place of Delivery, packed and placed on- or in-to a Transport unit. The shipment may consist of one or more Transport Units.
22. Regulations
-
regulations concerning rendering transport services. Every Raben company may issue and use its own Regulations. In case of discrepancies in definitions of this "Transport Dictionary of Raben Companies" and a definition in a Regulations of a given Raben Company, the definition in Regulations of a given Raben Company shall prevail.
23. Unloading
-
all activities aiming at unloading the Shipment from the means of transport as well as clearing up the means of transport in case of the contamination of the means of transport during loading activities.
24. "Hazardous goods (ADR)"
-
material or goods which according to the regulations have been accepted for road transport under certain conditions or have not been accepted for transport. Road transport of hazardous goods is a subject to a regulations of an Act of 28 October 2002 on Road transport of hazardous goods (Journal of Laws of 2002 no 199 item 1671 as amended) and European Agreement on the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods (ADR) by Road (Journal of Laws of 2002 no 194 item 1629 as amended).
25. "Tracking & Tracing"
-
a system used by Raben companies for monitoring shipment’s route at particular stages of transport via Internet. The shipment’s status can be checked at www.raben-group.com.
26. "Transport agreement"
-
transport agreement concerning a single Shipment signed by Orderer and Carrier in regard to Carrier’s accepting the Orderer’s Transport Order, the Transport Order being the subject of signing the agreement.
27. Master contact for rendering transport services
-
legally binding master contract regulating in its entirety the cooperation between the Customer and the Carrier in regard to the service of goods transport. In case of discrepancies in definitions of this “Transport Dictionary of Raben Companies” and a definition in the wording of the “Master contact for rendering transport services” the definition in “Master contact for rendering transport services” shall prevail.
28. "Additional service"
-
service commissioned at the Carrier by the Customer which can be carried out additionally to the execution of transport. Additional services are performed against additional payment. The most popular additional services are:
a) Additional service e-ROD, consists in taking certain documents along with the shipment, having the Recipient’s confirmation of shipment’s receipt in the body of those document and then scanning and archiving documents certified by the Recipient by the Carrier and rendering available the scans of the documents electronically to the Orderer.
b) Additional service ROP, consists in exchange of EUR pallets between the Recipients and return to the Orderer (Sender) the EUR pallets send for transport along with the Shipments.
c) Additional service COD, consists in taking from the Sender a particular fee for Shipment and giving the cash on delivery to the Orderer.
d) Additional service CFT consists in taking from the Sender a particular fee for transport service, other payables due concerning the shipment and remuneration for additional CFT service - on the basis of Orderer’s order of collection of those receivables from the Recipient.
Catalogue and regulations concerning rendering Additional services by particular companies of Raben are determined by each Raben company on its own.
29. Loading
-
all activities aiming at placing the Shipment into a given means of transport with the consideration of proper placement of the shipment inside the means of transport as well as clearing the means of transport in case of the contamination of the means of transport during Loading activities.
30. Transport order
-
order for transporting the Shipment prepared on the basis of a biding pattern, in a proper form under an agreed procedure, determining the data and information necessary for proper execution of transport. Transport order is an offer to conclude a Transport Agreement which the Orderer submits to the Carrier.
31. Orderer
-
an entrepreneur signing a Transport Agreement with the Carrier. The Orderer may be the Seder, the Recipient or a third party, being neither the Sender nor the Recipient.
32. Complaint
-
is a claim in a written form referring to a damage, loss of shortage in a shipment which occurred in the period of accepting the shipment for transport to its release or a delay in transport of the shipment.
33. SDR-id (Special Drawing Rights)
-
are deposit currency units used in international road transport of goods. The SDR's currency rate is available in Table A of average exchanges rates of foreign currencies ()currency code: XDR) by the National Bank of Poland.
